Leicester Interview Wilder for Manager Role

Leicester City have interviewed former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder as part of their search for a new head coach following their relegation from the Premier League.
The 57-year-old English manager became available after leaving Sheffield United in May, following their unsuccessful promotion campaign. Despite guiding the Blades to a third-place finish in the Championship, they fell short of automatic promotion by 10 points and ultimately lost the playoff final to Sunderland at Wembley.
Competition for the Leicester Job
Wilder faces competition from Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Rohl for the vacancy at King Power Stadium. The 36-year-old German manager has impressed at Hillsborough, but Leicester would need to activate a release clause in his contract to secure his services.
Rohl's situation at Wednesday has become complicated due to the club's financial troubles, including unpaid wages, which led to him not reporting for preseason training.
Other Managerial Candidates
Leicester's managerial search has seen several names linked with the position:
- Sean Dyche: The former Burnley and Everton boss was an early candidate but now appears less likely
- Gary O'Neil: The ex-Bournemouth and Wolves manager has also been mentioned as a potential option
Leicester's Recent Struggles
The Foxes endured a difficult 2022-23 season, finishing 19th in the Premier League and suffering relegation for the second time in three years. The club took over nine weeks after relegation was confirmed to announce the departure of manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
With preseason already underway, Leicester legend Andy King - a member of their 2016 Premier League-winning squad - took temporary charge for their opening friendly, a 3-1 victory over Peterborough United.
