Inzaghi exits Inter after Champions League final loss

Inter Milan and manager Simone Inzaghi have officially parted ways just three days after their crushing 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. The separation was announced as a mutual decision following Tuesday's meeting between the coach and club officials.

The 49-year-old Italian tactician, who joined Inter in 2021, leaves the club after a trophy-laden tenure that saw him claim six major honors. "After four incredible years where I gave my all, the time has come to say goodbye," Inzaghi stated emotionally.

During his tenure at San Siro, Inzaghi delivered:

  • 1 Serie A title (2023-24)
  • 2 Coppa Italia trophies
  • 3 Supercoppa Italiana victories

The outgoing manager paid tribute to Inter's passionate fanbase: "To the millions of Nerazzurri supporters who stood by us through every high and low - celebrating our six triumphs together and suffering through tough moments - I will never forget you."

Club president Giuseppe Marotta acknowledged Inzaghi's contributions: "We sincerely thank Simone for his dedication and the success he brought to Inter. Our open dialogue made this mutual separation possible."

Despite his domestic success, Inzaghi's European campaigns ended in heartbreak - consecutive Champions League final defeats including Saturday's record 5-0 loss to PSG and a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City in 2023.

This departure comes at a crucial juncture for Inter, who:

  • Missed the 2024-25 Serie A title by just one point to Napoli
  • Are preparing for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the USA (June 14-July 13)

Inzaghi has been strongly linked with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, who coincidentally will also participate in the upcoming Club World Cup tournament.
