Gudmundsson becomes Leeds' fourth summer signing

Leeds United have bolstered their defense with the £10 million signing of Swedish left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from French club Lille. The 26-year-old international has committed to a four-year contract at Elland Road, marking Leeds' fourth summer acquisition.
Impressive Ligue 1 Pedigree
Gudmundsson enjoyed a standout 2023-24 season with Lille, making 45 appearances as the club narrowly missed Champions League qualification by goal difference. The Swedish defender contributed to Lille's impressive defensive record - their 36 goals conceded ranked second only to champions Paris Saint-Germain (35) in Ligue 1.
Versatile Defensive Asset
The left-back demonstrated his technical quality with:
- 82.1% pass completion rate
- 2 league goals scored
- 9 Champions League appearances
Gudmundsson's versatility allows him to play multiple positions, including winger and center-back - a valuable asset for manager Daniel Farke.
Footballing Pedigree
The defender continues a family tradition in professional football as the son of former Sweden international Niklas Gudmundsson, who played for Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town during his career.
