Fifa extends Lewis ban for serious foul play

Manchester City's rising star Rico Lewis faces an extended suspension after receiving a two-match ban for his red card offense during the Club World Cup opener against Wydad Casablanca.
The 20-year-old England international was shown a straight red in the 88th minute of City's 2-0 victory over the Moroccan side in Philadelphia. While the initial one-match suspension caused him to miss Monday's 6-0 thrashing of Al Ain, FIFA's disciplinary committee deemed his challenge as "serious foul play," resulting in the additional ban.
Despite Manchester City's appeal against the extended suspension, their efforts proved unsuccessful. This means the academy product will miss two crucial matches:
- Thursday's group stage finale against Juventus
- The team's last-16 knockout tie
Pep Guardiola's squad has already secured their place in the knockout rounds after winning both group stage matches convincingly. The extended ban presents an opportunity for other defenders to step up in Lewis's absence.
