Che Adams Ends Scotland Goal Drought in Style

"It's nice to score for Scotland, it's not happened much since I've been here," said Che Adams after making history with Scotland's first hat-trick in nearly six years.

The 28-year-old striker showcased his versatility with a perfect hat-trick - left foot, right foot, and header - in Scotland's crucial match against Liechtenstein. This performance came at a critical time, following Scotland's disappointing defeat to Iceland just days earlier.

A Confidence-Boosting Performance

Adams opened the scoring just four minutes into the game with a sharp finish after Lennon Miller's deflected shot. He doubled Scotland's lead 20 minutes later with a powerful reverse shot that wrong-footed Liechtenstein's goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel. The Torino forward completed his hat-trick with a header in the final moments of the match.

"I'm happy to get on the scoresheet and help the team," Adams said. "We knew it'd be difficult, the conditions weren't great, but we were very professional and our mentality was spot on."

Breaking the Drought

This remarkable performance marked Adams' return to scoring form for Scotland after over a year without a goal in dark blue. While it was his first competitive strike in three years, the hat-trick brings his international tally to nine goals in 39 appearances.

Former Scotland defender Willie Miller praised Adams' achievement: "It's great for Adams to get his hat-trick. It will give him huge confidence."

Tactical Impact

The two-striker formation with George Hirst appeared to suit Adams well, earning praise from teammate Lyndon Dykes:

"The formations we played tonight definitely helped the game with the two up front. Scoring a hat-trick tonight will make him feel much better playing back in a Scotland shirt."

From Southampton to Scotland Hero

Since his international debut in March 2021, Adams has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled with consistency. Notably, Scotland has never lost a match when Adams scores.

Former Scotland captain Scott Brown highlighted Adams' all-around contribution:

"Every striker is judged on goals, but at the same time, it's his performance and work rate as well. His hold-up play and link-up play have been really, really good for Scotland."
